Since my temp-job came to an end, I got right back into baking SweetPotatoMayas, AND started working on a "vegan and gluten-free, Crusted mini SweetPotatoMayas".

I thought you'd like to see how they turned out.

...This is what they look like, when you drop the entire batch on the floor :)  (Thanks to the Mr., who still took some glamour shots for me)

  1. Oh nooooo! They still look tantalizingly delicious in spite of their calamity! (I should look so good when I take a tumble). :-) Did you at least get a chance to taste one before they hit the floor?

    1. You are so funny! :-D I'm sure your tumble is as graceful as the words you compose on your blog! These guys were in a container when they fell, so yes, they still got eaten by my family :-)

    2. You're much too kind, but then - you haven't seen some of my klutzy pratfalls, either! :-) Broke my elbow on the last really good one (on some ice) when I was on my way to pick up a pretty dragonfly plate I'd commissioned from a local artisan and had waited several weeks for. In my hurry to pick it up, I forgot about the sheet of ice at the bottom of our stairs, and BAM! It hurt like a crazy hurtful thing and I knew I should go to the ER, and I did - but not before I drove one-armed to the artist's house and picked up my plate! A girl's gotta have her priorities. :-) Funny thing, we just walked by that artist's house on Saturday and he was out in his yard and he said, "How did your shoulder end up doing?" (Hey, it was nearly a year and a half ago, I can cut him some slack for mixing up my joints, lol)

But anyway, the big question remains unanswered - what was the verdict on the new, improved Sweet Potato Mayas? Did you and your Taste Testers like the taste and texture or will you still be tweaking? And do you need more Taste Testers on your staff? :-)

    3. Oh my I DO like your priorities! You're my kind of girl :) A broken elbow though...ouch...that must have been VERY painful. And now you have this super crazy fun story to go with the dragonfly plate!

I would love to have more taste testers!! In fact, I think my 'taste testers' are the only people who are eating them these days ;-) And they're family, so they are being very kind to me - it's difficult to know! I like it. Everyone who's tasted it so far, said it's good. My mother-in-law's friend who is gluten-free, liked it. She also liked that they were bite sized. It's not overwhelmingly big. A nice treat/snack that's not too filling - I like that too.

I'm gonna make another batch over the next couple of days. I'm planning to not drop them, and have some more pictures taken. Please keep your fingers crossed for me :-)

    4. LOL, I suspected you might! :-)

It was only painful when I moved it! Shame the elbow is one of those frequently moved joints! And of course I did have to blog about it, so here's the post so you can see what The Plate That Trumped the E.R. looks like, and here's a later one with a picture of the crazy contraption I had to wear!

I'm sure they're scrumptious and don't believe for one second that you'd have any trouble rounding up more Taste Testers AND customers out there, especially among the huge vegan community. Did you know that Portland even has a vegan mini-mall? Maybe you could check with Food Fight Grocery (which is located in the mini mall) and see if they want to carry your Sweet Potato Mayas, or have a booth/make connections through Portland's Northwest VegFest in September (I am dying to go to that someday!), or through a Vegan Meetup! :-)

Fingers and toes all crossed for your next photo session - I'm looking forward to drooling all over my keyboard! :-)

    5. Checked out your 'elbow' posts...yikes ;-/ The things we do...!

THANK YOU for all the Vegan community info! You are truly my Vegan hook-up. I'm still trying to make them vegan and see if it'll work. The time it takes to make small individual pie crusts that hold together...it's tricky! Will I be able to sell them at a price, where, perhaps not my time and labor, but it will at least cover my expense for materials? I don't know yet. But I'll keep trying! :) Ahhh the fine balance of loving what you do and making it a business...

I hope I have some new pics for you soon. Thank you so much for your supportive words and all the great info miss Laloofah! I hope you're having a lovely weekend :)

    1. I have sweet friends who would eat a smashed one and say, 'they're all going in the same place anyway'. I have a feeling, you're one of those people Bob :-)
